Privacy
Short version: no advertising, no third-party trackers, and nothing sold or passed on.
What this site collects
There is no advertising pixel, no third-party analytics and no cookie banner. The page itself sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device (the only cookie it ever sets is my own sign-in cookie for editing it). The hosting provider may add one technical cookie that sends your request to the right server, and nothing else.
If you press play on a video, it loads from YouTube or Vimeo, which may store data on your device under their own privacy terms.
If I count visits to this page, a section headed Visit counting, further down this page, says exactly what is recorded. Visits are counted only while that section is there.
Hosting and server logs
The site and its database are hosted for me by Replit, on servers that may be outside the UK. The host keeps standard access logs (IP address, time, page requested) for security and reliability. I do not analyse them and they are not linked to you as an individual.
Downloads
Slide decks, KPI Trees and worksheets download directly. You are not asked for an email address to get them.
If you contact me
If you email me, book a call, or sign up to the newsletter, I hold those details to reply to you and to send what you asked for. Booking runs through Calendly and the newsletter through my email provider, each with their own privacy terms. I do not sell or pass your details to anyone else, and every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link.
Visit counting
I count visits to this page myself, to see which parts of it are useful. It uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device, and no advertising or analytics company is involved: the counting runs on this site, and the figures are kept in its database, which Replit hosts for me.
- What is recorded: when the page was opened (to the minute), which of my web addresses it was opened on, where you came from (only the name of the website, such as linkedin.com, or that you scanned my QR code or followed a shared link), the kind of device (phone, tablet or computer), the browser (such as Safari, or the LinkedIn app), which buttons and links on the page were used and how long after opening, and whether a copy or share went through.
- Never recorded: your IP address, the full details your browser sends, your location, or anything you type.
- Counting visitors each day: to know roughly how many different people visit each day, your IP address and browser details are turned into a one-way code, using a secret that is used for one day only. The secret is deleted after that day ends (at the latest when the site is next used); my host's short-term database backups may keep it for a few days more. Once it has gone, the code can't be worked out again or matched with another day, so if you come back tomorrow you count as a new visitor.
- How long it is kept: the details of each visit for 13 months, then they are deleted. Totals (counts per hour and per button or link, with nothing about who) are kept.
- Why: it is in my legitimate interest to know which parts of this page people use, and the counting is designed to tell me as little about you as possible.
- How to say no: if your browser has a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track setting, switch it on and nothing is sent. Firefox, Brave and DuckDuckGo have Global Privacy Control; Chrome and Edge have Do Not Track. Safari, and most browsers on an iPhone, have neither: there, a content blocker or turning off JavaScript stops the counting.
The records don't name you, and I don't try to work out who visited. If you'd like your visit records deleted, email me. I can't reliably tell which ones are yours, so I'll delete all the visit records.
Your rights
You can ask what I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask me to delete it. Email bernie@madetomeasurekpis.com and I will sort it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
